Project Share – Warm Hearts, Warm Homes

Published by at 8:32 pm under Energy & Technology Committee

On February 12, 2009, I visited City Light at the Seattle Municipal Tower for an event to promote Project Share, called Warm Hearts, Warm Homes. Project Share is a City Light sponsored program that solicits voluntary donations from its ratepayers to be distributed to low income residents unable to pay their power bill. During my lunch break, I joined the festivities by placing my donation to the Project Share Fund along with many other city employees doing the same thing. I have been told that the drive garnered more than $2,500 in employee donations. This money will help keep the lights and heat on for people in need. Nice work fellow employees!

As you may recall, the council set $100,000 aside in the 2009 budget to promote awareness of Project Share. I was so pleased to see my fellow city employees give of themselves in order to help those in need of assistance with their electric bills. Although I have not been given the exact numbers, my office has been told that donations to Project Share are happening with greater frequency than last year. However, I understand that there is greater demand for assistance as well, which drives up the importance of generating more donations for Project Share. We can do this and if you are interested, please contact me or visit the Project Share website at: http://www.seattle.gov/light/HELP/Share/
