The official honoree for this year’s Ninth Annual Ballard High School Golf Classic is Jim Vatn. He was recognized for his ceaseless involvement in the Ballard community, as well as the city of Seattle.
Jim Vatn was this year’s honoree at the Ninth Annual Ballard High School’s Golf Classic. In recognition of his work, I asked the Seattle City Council to sign a proclamation recognizing Jim for his hard work and dedication, perseverance and commitment to build Ballard High School’s sports and music programs into the strong departments they are today, and contributions to Seattle’s diverse cultural population.
Jim has lived in Ballard all his life, graduated from Ballard High School in 1962. He has worked over many years to improve his community and served as a member and chair of Seattle Seafair, the Rotary Club of Ballard, the Swedish medical Center Board of Governors, Seattle’s 17th of May Committee, the University of Washington Department of Scandinavian Studies, Nordic Heritage Museum, and the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce. Also, Jim has served as an original member of the Seattle Mariners RBI Club.
In recognition of Jim’s work in the Ballard community, the Ballard High School Foundation honored him with the Wm. R. Ballard Award for exception service to the school. Jim is also a recipient of the Stan Boreson Award from the Ballard Chamber of Commerce and was knighted by the king of Norway for his commitment and work toward promoting the relationship between Norway and the United States.
Jim was the official honoree of the Ninth Annual Ballard High School Golf Classic. During the presentation of the Seattle City Council’s proclamation, many in the audience were moved to two standing ovations. What a great tribute to Jim and the Ballard community. Congratulations!
