Council & Regional Committees
Energy and Technology
To deliberate and make recommendations on legislative matters relating to Seattle City Light, including but not limited to City Light finances, energy utility rates, resource matters, regional matters, air pollution regulations, environmental policies and initiatives, alternative energy sources, and waterway cleanup; and to City information technology planning, implementation, and organization, cable telecommunications services and planning, broadband telecommunications planning and implementation, Seattle Channel, seattle.gov, and citizen technology literacy and access.
Public Safety, Human Services & Education Committee
To deliberate and make recommendations on legislative matters relating to law enforcement, fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical services, and criminal justice, including coordination with regional, state and federal law and justice agencies; to human services, homelessness, child care, aging, and disability services; and to education activities within the City’s purview, including City Council-School Board relations, and oversight of the Families and Education Levy and the City’s Education Action Agenda.
Housing & Economic Development Committee
To deliberate and make recommendations on legislative matters relating to housing and economic development policies and programs.
Culture, Civil Rights, Health & Personnel Committee
To deliberate and make recommendations on legislative matters relating to culture, including arts activities, Seattle Public Library, Seattle Channel, Seattle Community Access Network (SCAN), and Nightlife Advisory Board; to civil rights issues; to local and regional public health; and to personnel issues, including labor-management relations, collective bargaining agreements, and other issues related to salary rates, hours and other conditions of employment.

Organizational Affiliations:
Puget Sound Regional Council, Transportation Policy Board
The Transportation Policy Board includes representatives of the Regional Council’s member jurisdictions and regional business, labor, civic and environmental groups. Meets monthly to make recommendations on key transportation issues to the Executive Board.
Puget Sound Regional Council, Executive Board
Executive Board members are appointed by their General Assembly constituents to represent the member governments. The Board is chaired by the Regional Council president, meets monthly, and carries out delegated powers and responsibilities between meetings of the General Assembly.
Reinvesting in Youth (RIY) is a county-wide multi-organization effort to find and implement best practices to reduce the youth school drop-out rate.
RIY will work with district leaders to develop a comprehensive dropout prevention action plan that includes the best research-based school practices and programs and will provide technical assistance, resources and support to help with implementation and evaluation. Plans will involve staff, students, parents and community in a comprehensive effort. RIY is also working with legislators and education stakeholders on policy reform and potential incentives to address the dropout challenge. RIY is supported through funds from the City of Seattle, King County, suburban cities, United Way, and the Bill & Melinda Gates, Paul G. Allen, and Norcliffe Foundations.
(Committee Chair) Performance First: A Business Development Strategy of the Prosperity Partnership
As Washington state continues to become more diverse, support of minority-owned businesses is an increasingly important part of the Prosperity Partnership’s Regional Economic Strategy. Nationally, 70 percent of new jobs are created by small business, and minority-owned businesses are a growing portion of small business in Washington state. Success among minority-owned businesses translates to increased jobs, increased wealth and long-term prosperity for all of our region’s residents. More must be done to ensure that these entrepreneurs have the tools, resources and access they need to be successful.
(Member) King County Flood Control Zone District Advisory Committee
The advisory committee advises the board of supervisors of the KCFCZD on regional flood protection issues by providing recommendations to the board of supervisors on the district’s work program and budget, including capital improvement program projects.
CASASTART is a substance abuse and delinquency prevention program serving high-risk young adolescents and their families. CASASTART’s primary goals are (1) to provide youths with the services and support they need to become productive, law-abiding citizens; and (2) to create a safer environment for adolescents and their families through the reduction of crime and illegal drugs in their neighborhoods. To attain its goals, CASASTART brings together key stakeholders in a community, including families, schools, law enforcement agencies, and social service and health agencies.
(Member) Fire Levy Oversight Committee
The Levy Oversight Committee plays a key role in advising on and monitoring the Levy’s implementation.
The Committee’s quarterly meetings will provide a venue for public comment, and the Committee’s activities will promote communications with the broader community through, for example, web-publication of meeting minutes and relevant handouts. Fleets and Facilities personnel will staff the Committee.
